Today, I had the exciting chance to go canyoning in the Vorotan River, organized by Scream of Soul, a company specializing in extreme tourism. I was curious to go and see what’s actually hidden under the Devil’s bridge. While many people have heard of the Devil’s Bridge, few know what lies beneath it.

Even though it was a rainy September day, our spirits were high. After a brief orientation, we suited up in wetsuits and secured ourselves with ropes, ready to descend into the canyon. The descend into the gorge was so much fun and at the same time a bit scary as rope is the only thing saving your life :)))
Once we reached the Vorotan River, the adventure truly began. We slid down natural rock slides, jumped into the water, and swam in the river. Each moment was filled with laughter and adrenaline as we navigated the twists and turns of the canyon.
As we paddled downstream, we finally arrived under the Devil’s Bridge. This natural stone arch is located near the village of Halidzor, about 10 kilometers from Goris in southern Armenia. The bridge is about 30 meters long and 12 meters high, providing a stunning view of the Vorotan River below.

Did you know? The bridge has been a part of local folklore for centuries. According to legend, it was built by the devil himself to help lost souls cross the river. This myth gives the bridge its intriguing name.
The Devil’s Bridge was formed over thousands of years through the natural erosion of rock by the river’s flow. The power of water carved out the impressive arch we see today, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The area around the bridge features stunning cliffs and lush greenery, creating a picturesque backdrop.
As we soaked in the warm mineral waters under the bridge, I learned more about their healing properties. The water is rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, known for their therapeutic effects. Locals believe that bathing in these waters can help with various ailments, such as joint pain and skin conditions. It’s a perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate after an adventurous day.
After our refreshing break, we decided to swim further along the river, right beneath the bridge. As we ventured deeper, the surroundings became darker and more mysterious. The sense of adventure was palpable! With Danil, our skilled guide, leading the way, we felt safe navigating the darker sections of the canyon.

Canyoning under the Devil’s Bridge was an unforgettable experience, combining nature, history, and a bit of thrill. If you’re looking for an adventure that lets you explore the beauty of Armenia in a unique way, I highly recommend it.
