My adventure to Angel’s Canyon began in Yerevan, about 50 kilometers away. It took us roughly an hour to get there. My friend and I boarded a public bus at Sasuntsi Davit Station and headed to Vedi village. After arriving in Vedi, we grabbed a taxi to Dashtaqar village, which was our starting point for the hike.

Once in Dashtaqar, we set off on our hike toward Angel’s Canyon. It was August, and the landscape was quite dry. The trail passed through local gardens, where we spotted farmers cultivating various crops and vegetables. We also saw cows and horses grazing in the fields, which added to the rural charm.

As we walked, the surrounding rocks and mountains caught our attention. The terrain felt almost desert-like, with a warm palette of earth tones. The canyon is about 3 kilometers from Dashtaqar, making it an easy trek.
As we began, Vedi Fortress came into view on our left. We didn’t hike up to it this time, but I imagined the breathtaking views from the top. It’s worth considering for future visits!

About halfway to the canyon, we encountered a rock formation locals call the “Stone Book.” Its unique shape was perfect for a quick photo stop, so don’t forget to snap a picture here.
The canyon itself is short but quite unique. The jagged red rocks definitely give it a Martian-like feel. The area is nearly devoid of vegetation, which adds to the sense of mystery. It’s worth taking your time to explore the nooks and crannies, as there are many interesting spots for photography.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, too! We spotted an Armenian tortoise meandering along the trail and a steppe eagle soaring overhead. The proximity to Khosrov State Reserve means you might encounter various animals during your hike.

If you plan to visit, make sure to choose a cooler day since there is little shade along the way. I recommend bringing at least 2-3 liters of water. The trail can be uneven, so sturdy footwear is essential for a safe and enjoyable hike. We learned the hard way that the heat can be intense, especially in August.
Overall, our trip to Angel’s Canyon was a memorable experience. It’s a beautiful area, and with the right preparation, it can be a rewarding adventure.
